muck boots?

hunter/jumper and dog trainer asked:

are these L.L. Bean Wellies an okay substitute for actual muck boots because they are much cheaper than all the ones i’ve found or should i suck it up and pay for real muck boots?

   LL Bean is very high quality and well made - I wouldn’t worry about that. I can’t imagine, though, that they are that much cheaper than “real” muck boots!

   Buy the LL Bean Wellies. I’ve used $12.00 walmart rubber boots for years and years, and have only replaced them three times in the last 16 years. I’ve also got a pair from LL Bean and love them!

   I myself own a pair of L.L. Bean Wellies and I’d say they are the finest muck boots on the market. I use them inside my pig pen to walk through very deep mud. These boots do not leak, are cheep, and all you have to do is squirt them off with the hose to clean them. I wouldn’t say these are a substitute for “muck boots”, id say “muck boots” are a substitute for Wellies.

   Yeah those are fine but for my muck boots i just went to Walmart and bought steel toe rain boots. Its in the back of the shoe dep. near the other boots, I only paid $20. They look almost like those except their black. they’re really comfortable.

   I have a pair of Lakeland Wellies I’ve worn for over 10 years now. These LL Beans look similar, and are way cheaper. I love this style for the barn and also wear them anywhere I can get away with it. Mine are just plain ol green- these you picked are quite cute! I’d like to add something…I got my boots a size larger than I usually wear. I got a pair of wellies from another company similar to LL Bean. They are cutely striped and I got my size. I cannot pry these things off if I sweat in them. They are porch decor. The Lakelands I got a size larger and can wear thermals in them for winter and stay quite toasty, plus they are dead easy to get out of in summer with one pair of cotton sox to soak up sweat.
   And I’d like to know, too…what are actual muck boots???? I thought these were it.

   The difference between the ones you are looking at and the Muck Boots is that the Mucks are insulated. So they are great for winter and snow. It depends on what you want them for…rubber Wellies will protect you from mud/water/manure but they don’t give any extra insulation. If you are going to be outside for long periods of time in the winter, get the Mucks. If not, get rubber boots. You can even get them cheaper than the LL Bean ones at places like Ace Hardware or Walmart or somewhere like that.

   I have both and I tend to use my Muck Boots more.

   I don’t see why they wouldn’t work. Heh I just wear the same boots as I do every day. But thats me. Not everybody agree’s, but riding boots are smooth leather bottoms so, if I get something nasty on the sole I can scrape it off, and hose off the top with a water hose. But I don’t see why those boots wouldnt work well for you.
