Muck Boots and the Weather
May 15th, 2008 | by admin |Not too long ago I accompanied a friend to visit her horse on another friend’s property. I haven’t seen a horse up close in quite a while so I thought it would be a neat adventure. This was towards the end of March and anybody that lives in the North can attest to the ground and soil conditions during this time of year. They are very sloppy. I went with my regular work boots thinking I’d be fine. Let me tell you, my boots would have been trashed. My friend let me borrow a pair of Muck Boots, since she had several pair. The only problem was they were something around a women’s size eight? I wear a men’s eleven in a shoe. So I had to put as much of my foot into the boot as possible.
Walking to the stable was a bit of a hike, and I felt like I was trying to walk with three inch heels on. Not accustomed to walking in heels, naturally I was finding it hard to keep my balance. Once I arrived at the stable I was fine, I could lean, stand still, sit, anything that didn’t require me prancing around. Once my appetite for horses wore off, after about 45 minutes, I was ready to leave. I was cold and not very comfortable. The only thing that wasn’t cold on me was my feet. The thick rubber found on these boots actually kept my feet warm. Not to mention 100% completely dry.
As we went back to the garage and took the boots off, I couldn’t help taking a good look at them, even though they didn’t fit me whatsoever. I was impressed that they were able to take the abuse of 220 pounds, not fitting right, and the extreme mud, snow, and slop that was on the ground. My work boots would have been ruined. From my personal story, I can tell you that protecting your feet from the elements is crucial, especially in a cold, damp, muddy environment. How comforting it is to know that Muck Boots exist and how well they are made. Hundreds of years ago people had a tough time. It’s too bad the company, the methods, and these boots didn’t exist for them. I’m sure they would’ve been very grateful, especially since most everything was done outdoors and in the land.
